Details: K C M G C B D S O Died of wounds 27th September 1915. Age 51. Husband of Mary Capper of 67 Portland Court Marylebone London. In front of II. A. Major General Sir Thompson Capper. KCMG, CB, DSO. Thompson Capper, b 20, 10, 1863 in India, joined the British Army in 1882 aged 19 and served in the Chitral Relief Force, Mahdist War, Second Boer War, and in the First World War the First Battle of Ypres and the Battle of Loos. He was knighted by King George V for service during the battle of Ypres. Shot by a sniper at Loos he died on 27, 09, 1915, aged 51 when on the General Staff of the East Lancashire Regiment. Also Commemorated on a Stone Pillar Memorial at the Royal Memorial Chapel, Sandhurst, Berkshire. Inscription: In memory of Major General Sir Thompson Capper, KCMG, CB, DSO. Killed in action at Loos, September 27th 1915 while commanding the 7th Division. and on a Floor tile/s. St. Paul’s Cathedral. In Chapel of the Knights Commander of the Order of St. Michael and St. George. “Killed in actionâ€.
