'I am a graduate student in political science and Russian studies at Leiden University. This Summer I visited Ieper and was impressed with the work of the CWGC there. Back home in Brummen where my parents live I discovered a CWGC-sign on the gate of the local cemetary and found two graves. On the internet I then found out about this photographic project and thought it would be interesting to volunteer. I hope to learn more about Dutch geography, interesting little villages, and war history. In my daily studies I treat armies as one of many actors in international politics, and as big wholes with intricate relations with civilian administrations. This is an opportunity to pay my respects to the individuals behind the abstract wholes who liberated my country.'
