Lars Ahlkvist
Lars Ahlkvist, Hörby, Sweden I grew up in the south of Sweden, where my parents told of British bombers crossing over their native Helsingborg at the coast many nights in 1944, chased by flak and German night fighters from Denmark on their way to targets in northeastern Germany & Poland. Several crashed in Sweden, especially on the night of 29/30th August 1944 when 17 came down, two near Hörby where I now live and am the Mayor. The crash sites and their graves are still remembered and honoured by the locals. I and my wife regularly take our vacations in France, and often stop to visit british cemeteries, especially where a soldier rests whose medals are in my care.
