Bob Friel

I am an archaeologist based in Bradford in West Yorkshire but travel actively throughout the North Atlantic Region, (mostly the Shetland Isles and the Faroe Islands). I have carried out and am currently carrying out research concerning the 20th Century military activity on both these island groups. As an outreach project for the University of Bradford Archaeological Department I have been using the study of war graves and local war memorials with a number of schools in the Leeds/Bradford area to develop a feeling of community and belonging within the school population, the wider local community and their local environment. On a military front I have recently gained my commission within the Royal Artillery (TA) after 18 years with operational service in both the Balkans and Iraq.
