Martin Eggermont

Yorkshire. I am aged 48 years, a retired Police Officer currently pursuing work in the Health, Safety and Security field. Married to Irene we have a 13 years old daughter Sophie and a black Labrador 'Brad'. I became interested in WW 1 many years ago having discovered a relative, 23 years old Pte 2785 George Henry Renals had been killed in April 1915 at the 1st Battle of Ypres whilst serving with the 4th Bttn Yorkshire Regt. Sadly he has no known grave. George had actually been only a few miles away from my grand-fathers brother, Grenadier Sgt Joseph Eggermont who was fighting with the Belgian Army at Dixmuide. Joseph survived the whole of the 1st War only to be killed on the first day of the 2nd War as a civilian when the Germans bombed the Knokke-Heist airfield where he had a café. Such is life and fate.
